Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron out for Game 2 vs. Panthers with injury

After missing Game 1 of their opening-round playoff series against the Florida Panthers on Monday night due to an illness, Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron will once again be out of the lineup for Game 2 on Wednesday due to injury reasons.

Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters Wednesday that Bergeron’s absence for Game 2 was not because of the illness that kept him out of Game 1, but because of injury instead.

Bergeron skated on his own Wednesday before Bruins practice but did not participate in the team’s morning skate.

The 37-year-old Bergeron suffered an upper-body injury in the team’s regular-season finale against Montreal and missed practice Saturday and Sunday.

Coach Jim Montgomery said after Saturday’s practice that it was “extra rest.”

The Presidents’ Trophy winning Bruins looked just fine without Bergeron in the lineup Monday, taking Game 1 over the Panthers with a 3-1 victory.

You can watch the Bruins take on the Panthers in Game 2 Wednesday live on Sportsnet and SN NOW at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT.
