Canadiens’ Oliver Kapanen to make NHL debut vs. Bruins

The Montreal Canadiens will inject more youth into their lineup.

Finnish forward Oliver Kapanen will make his NHL debut for the team’s game in Boston against the Bruins, the team announced Thursday.

Kapanen, 21, will replace Emil Heineman.

The Canadiens took Kapanen in the second round (64th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. He has played in the top Finnish league the past three seasons with KalPa, registering 14 goals and 20 assists in 51 games last year.

The Canadiens will turn to Cayden Primeau in net after Samuel Montembeault registered the season-opening shutout in a 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

Primeau played college hockey at Northeastern University in Boston.
