The Vancouver Canucks have finally received some good news.
Thatcher Demko will return from a lower-body injury and start in Wednesday’s tilt against the Ottawa Senators, and forward Zack MacEwan will also be back in action.
Demko suffered the injury during Monday’s morning skate that caused him to miss Vancouver’s 2-1 loss to the Senators.
Braden Holtby had been starting in place of Demko, but the return of the 25-year-old netminder will give the Canucks some much-needed goaltender insurance.
With Demko on the shelf, the Canucks were down to Holtby and 20-year-old Arturs Silovs, who played just one game this season while on loan to the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
Demko is 12-13-1 in 26 games played and started this season, with a .917 save percentage and 2.74 goals-against average. Demko has only played just once in April, a loss against the Senators on April 22.
Vancouver is currently 10 points back of Montreal for the final playoff in the North Division, but they do have five games in hand.
The Canucks and Senators will do battle for the final time this season Wednesday night in Ottawa.
