Canucks’ Mark Friedman one of four players on waivers

The Vancouver Canucks want Mark Friedman to start the season in the minors.

The defenceman was placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to AHL Abbotsford, the Canucks announced Tuesday.

Acquired by the Canucks in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins early last season, Friedman played four games with Vancouver and 23 with Abbotsford.

The Toronto native, 28, has four goals and nine assists in 88 career NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Penguins and Canucks.

Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers placed goalie Chris Driedger and forward MacKenzie Estwislte on waivers Tuesday, while the Vegas Golden Knights did the same with forward Raphael Lavoie after they claimed him off waivers 24 hours earlier from the Edmonton Oilers.

Detroit Red Wings forward Austin Watson cleared waivers.
