The Vancouver Canucks were forced to play with just five defencemen against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.
Veteran blue liner Tyler Myers suffered an injury early in the first period and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The announcement was shared by the team at the start of the second period.
Myers suffered the injury less than two minutes into the game after delivering a hit on Flyers forward Joel Farabee, resulting in an awkward collision along the boards.
He stayed down on the ice, was attended to by team trainers, and had to be helped off by his teammates. As he skated to the locker room, Myers appeared to keep weight off his right leg.
After the game, head coach Rick Tocchet did not have an update to provide.
“Myers, I don’t know. Hopefully, we dodge a bullet, but I’m not sure,” he said.
The 34-year-old played 77 games for the Canucks last season, recording five goals and 24 assists for a total of 29 points.
