Defenceman Mark Friedman and forward Ty Glover were obtained by the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Jack Rathbone and forward Karel Plasek on Tuesday.

In 65 career NHL games with Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, the five-foot-11, 185-pound defenceman has four goals and eight assists for 12 points.

The Toronto native was drafted by the Flyers in the third round (86th overall), in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Previously, the six-foot-three, 200-pound forward spent two seasons in the NCAA with Western Michigan University, where he had 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points in 63 games.

The Salford, England, native was undrafted and signed with the Penguins as a free agent.

Rathbone, 24, spent the last four seasons in the Canucks organization. In two games this season with the Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL, he had one goal.

“It’s been a tough couple years for him in Vancouver not getting an opportunity,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said Tuesday. “I felt (this) was a change of scenery for him. I respect him and he’s a good kid, so I wish him all the best.”

The Boston native played two seasons at Harvard University, registering 14 goals and 39 assists for 53 points in 61 games. Rathbone was drafted in the fourth round (95th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Canucks.
