The NHL’s all-time shots-on-goal leader is experiencing an extremely rare drought.
Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin didn’t record a shot on net for a second game in a row in Wednesday’s 6-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators — the first time in his 1,350-game NHL career he has put up a zero in that category in consecutive games.
Ovechkin hasn’t recorded a shot on goal in just 19 career games.
The 38-year-old Ovechkin is off to a slow start, recording his first point of the season (an assist) on Wednesday in the team’s third game of the season.
But as Tom Gulitti of NHL.com noted, Ovechkin has bounced back from slow starts previously.
Ovechkin became the NHL’s all-time shots-on-goal leader last season when he overtook Ray Bourque (6,209 shots).
The Russian now stands at 6,359 shots.
The spotlight will be on Ovechkin on Saturday when the Montreal Canadiens host the Capitals on Hockey Night in Canada.
