The Washington Capitals have signed veteran forward Jakub Vrana to a one-year, $775,000 contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The 28-year-old from Prague, Czechia had rejoined the Capitals on a professional tryout agreement.
Vrana was drafted in the first round, 13th overall, by Washington in 2014 and spent his first four-and-a-half seasons with the team. He captured the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018.
Washington traded Vrana to the Detroit Red Wings in April 2021. He entered the player assistance program in October 2022. After he was cleared to return, Vrana was placed on waivers and sent to the minors. He was traded to the St. Louis Blues in March 2023.
Vrana split this past season between the Blues and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. He had six points (two goals and four assists) in 21 games with St. Louis, plus 36 points (16 goals and 20 assists) in 42 games with Springfield.
He has 209 points (110 goals and 99 assists) in 367 career games over nine seasons with Washington, Detroit and St. Louis.
