Teams are already on the phones just ahead of Day 2 of the NHL Draft.
The Washington Capitals swung a deal for the 43rd pick, sending forward Beck Malenstyn to the Buffalo Sabres, the team announced Saturday.
Malenstyn, 26, was drafted by the Capitals in the fifth round, 145th overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has made 105 appearances with Washington over four seasons, scoring eight goals and notching 24 points.
He put up career-highs in games played (81), goals (six) and assists (15) with the Capitals this season.
He won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears in 2023, scoring 10 goals and picking up 18 points in 60 regular season and playoff games that season.
The six-foot, 200-pound winger from Delta, B.C., is a restricted free agent.
