Coyotes giving fans mullet wigs for Mullett Arena debut vs. Jets

Sean Reynolds joins Hockey Central ahead of the season debut of the Arizona Coyotes' home Mullett Arena, reporting that the players are hoping it can match the fun energy of their days in junior and college hockey.

The Arizona Coyotes certainly are doing their best to make their first game at 5,000-seat Mullett Arena a unique event.

Fans throughout the arena on the Arizona State University campus will receive mullets adorned with a “Go Coyotes go” headband to wear for Friday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

The arena is named after a family that supports Arizona State University and the athletics program, not the famous hockey hairstyle.

About eight hours before puckdrop, the cheapest ticket on the resale market on StubHub, in a pair, for Friday’s game was being listed as $116, though students will be able to purchase $25 tickets for each Coyotes home game.

While that’s certainly more than the Coyotes were getting at their old arena in Glendale, it still was below the get-in price ($130) for Saturday’s Battle of Alberta in Calgary at the far bigger Saddledome.

The Coyotes are hoping to move into a traditional-sized NHL arena in Tempe, but are awaiting a political vote on construction next month.

The Coyotes are planning to play at Mullett Arena for at least the next three years.
