Detroit Red Wings sign Jake Walman to one-year deal, avoiding arbitration

The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenceman Jake Walman to a one-year, $1.05 million contract, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. The deal allows both parties to avoid arbitration.

The 26-year-old, left-handed defenceman is coming off a two-year deal that paid him $725,000 annually. The Toronto native was acquired by the Red Wings from St. Louis in March as part of the Nick Leddy trade.

Walman, who was drafted 82nd overall by the Blues in 2014, has four goals and eight assists in 76 NHL games over three seasons.
