Devils’ Dougie Hamilton out indefinitely after surgery, Nemec to make debut

The New Jersey Devils have placed defenceman Dougie Hamilton on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 28 after he had surgery to repair his torn left pectoral muscle, the team announced Friday.

Hamilton will be out indefinitely and there is no timetable for his return.

The team announced that forward Tomas Nosek will also be out indefinitely after he had surgery on his right foot.

In some good injury news, the Devils will have forward Timo Meier in the lineup for Friday’s game against the San Jose Sharks. Head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed to reporters that Meier will return against his former team after recovering from his lower-body injury.

With Nosek and Hamilton out of the lineup, the Devils called up Simon Nemec, the second-overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft. Ruff confirmed that the 19-year-old defenceman will make his NHL debut against the Sharks on Friday.

Nemec has two goals and six assists in 13 games with the Utica Comets this season.
