Devils re-sign defenceman Nick DeSimone to one-year, one-way deal

The New Jersey Devils have re-signed defenceman Nick DeSimone to a one-year, one-way contract valued at $775,000, team president and general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced on Monday.

DeSimone, 29, played 11 games with the Devils in the 2023-24 season after being claimed off waivers from the Calgary Flames in January. The defenceman totalled 34 NHL appearances between the two teams last year, logging seven points (two goals, five assists).

He finished a plus-seven with New Jersey, ranked third on the team and second amongst defencemen.

The six-foot-two, 185-pound player has played in 38 games throughout his NHL career, most of his ice time coming in the American Hockey League where DeSimone made appearances with San Jose, Rochester, Stockton and Calgary. Through 341 games he finished with 176 points (38 goals, 138 assists) and 129 penalty minutes.

The American went undrafted out of Union College before signing with San Jose as a free agent in 2017.
