Centre Dylan Strome has signed a one-year deal worth $3.5-million with the Washington Capitals for next season.
Strome, who became an unrestricted free agent when the Chicago Blackhawks did not tender him a qualifying offer, is a former third-overall pick by the Arizona Coyotes in 2015.
Since that time, the Mississauga, Ont., native has struggled to live up to expectations, playing just 48 games over parts of three seasons in Arizona before being traded with Brendan Perlini to Chicago in November 2018 for Nick Schmaltz.
While with Chicago, Strome averaged 0.68 points per game, including a career-high 22 goals this past season.
Strome is coming off a two-year deal worth $3 million he signed with former GM Stan Bowman. A qualifying offer from Chicago would have cost the club $3.6 million.
