Ex-Senators D Wade Redden rejoins team as development coach

Former Ottawa Senators defenceman Wade Redden is returning to the team as a development coach, the organization announced Monday.

Redden, 45, is the franchise’s career leader in plus/minus rating (+159), ranks fourth in games (838), fifth in points (410) and sixth in penalty minutes (576).

Redden played in 1,023 career regular-season games with Ottawa, the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins, notching 457 points (109 goals, 348 assists) and 665 penalty minutes.

The native of Lloydminster, Sask. served as assistant director of player development for the Nashville Predators from 2016-17 to 2018-19.

“Wade’s addition is a significant one for our development staff,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. “He’ll be especially integral in helping mold our prospects on defence. A leader throughout his playing career, we know the same qualities will translate very well in this new role.”
