The Calgary Flames made a late-add to their forward depth, acquiring Ryan Carpenter from the Chicago Blackhawks just minutes from Monday’s NHL trade deadline.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Flames will be sending a fifth-round pick in 2024 back to Chicago.
Carpenter, 31, has appeared in 300 games over his career with the Sharks, Golden Knights and Blackhawks. A six-foot centre, he has 11 points in 59 games this season with a 52.3 success rate on faceoffs this season.
Carpenter is in the final year of a three-year contract, with a $1 million salary cap hit this season. He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
While the Flames were relatively quiet on deadline day, the team made two other additions in the weeks up to the deadline, adding Tyler Toffoli from the Canadiens and Calle Jarnkrok from the Kraken.
