Calgary Flames assistant GM Chris Snow remains on life support after suffering a “catastrophic brain injury” caused by cardiac arrest.
Snow’s wife, Kelsie Snow, posted the update on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday.
Kelsie said organ donation is being arranged.
Kelsie Snow wrote in her post, “Tests yesterday confirmed that Chris will not wake up. In life, Chris offered his body to a clinical trial to help others. In death he will do the same. He remains on life support while organ donation is arranged. We are so proud of him.”
Chris Snow, 42, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2019.
Kelsie Snow said Wednesday on social media that her husband became unresponsive and suffered a heart attack on Tuesday.
She said paramedics and doctors were able to get his heart beating again, but suffered a brain injury due to a lack of oxygen. She said his doctors do not expect him to wake up from the injury.
ALS is a progressive nervous system disease affecting brain cells and the spinal cord, and causes a loss of muscle control.
Snow’s father, two uncles and a cousin also died of what’s also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Kelsie added later Wednesday a friend encouraged her to set up a GoFundMe page.
“We will be forever grateful for the love & support sent our way, but we aren’t surprised by the number of people Chris touched,” Kelsie wrote.
