The Calgary Flames have claimed defenceman Joel Hanley off waivers from the Dallas Stars, the club announced Tuesday.
Hanley had three assists over 32 games with the Stars this season, his sixth with the team. Over 183 career NHL games, Hanley has recorded two goals and 25 assists.
Hanley’s role in Dallas was diminished after the Stars acquired Chris Tanev in a trade with the Flames last week.
The 32-year-old from Keswick, Ont., went undrafted to the NHL and has previously played for the Arizona Coyotes and Montreal Canadiens.
Forward Matthew Phillips was also re-claimed Tuesday by the Washington Capitals after being placed on waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Phillips started the season with Washington and was claimed by Pittsburgh on Feb. 16 after being placed on waivers. He made just three appearances with the Penguins.
Drafted by the Flames in 2016, the 25-year-old has one goal and four assists in 30 games this season.
Goaltender Aaron Dell, who recently signed with the Los Angeles Kings, cleared waivers.
