Flames draft G Kirill Zarubin 84th overall at NHL Draft

The Calgary Flames added to their goaltender depth after trading away Jacob Markstrom earlier this off-season.

Calgary drafted goaltender Kirill Zarubin from the Russian MHL 84th overall in the third round of the NHL Draft on Saturday.

Zarubin, 18, played for the Tula J-18 and J-20 academy teams in the MHL, Russia’s minor hockey league. He put up a 1.99 GAA, .944 save percentage and a 15-7-6 record in 29 games with the J-20 team and a 4.32 GAA, .902 save percentage and 4-11-1 record with the J-18 team.

The Flames traded away long-time netminder Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick and defenceman Kevin Bahl.
