The Calgary Flames have signed entry-level contracts with three prospects from the 2023 and 2024 draft, the team announced on Friday.
They signed their two 2024 first-round picks Zayne Parekh and Matvei Gridin to three-year entry-level contracts worth $2.925 million, as well as a three-year entry-level contract worth $2.7 million for 2023 second-round pick Etienne Morin.
Parekh, a six-foot tall defenceman, spent the 2023-2024 season in the OHL with the Saginaw Spirit, where he won the Memorial Cup. Throughout 66 games, the right-handed blueliner posted 33 goals, 63 assists for 96 points — more than doubling his total from his rookie season when put up 37 points in 50 games.
Gridin, a six-foot-one forward, made a major jump this year with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. In 60 games, he scored 38 goals and 83 points, putting up five more points in eight games of the post-season.
Morin, a six-foot-defenceman, was selected out of the QMJHL, where he played for the Moncton Wildcats. In 58 games for the Wildcats, he scored 12 goals and 49 points.
