Flames to start Jacob Markstrom vs. Panthers, get Tanev back into lineup

Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom will play in his first game since Dec. 2 when he starts against the Panthers on Monday night, while defenceman Chris Tanev will also make his return, according to Sportsnet 960’s Pat Steinberg.

The Swedish goalie missed seven games with a fractured finger he suffered in practice on Dec. 4. The 33-year-old is 6-8-2 this season with a .896 save percentage and 2.94 goals-against average and has been working his way back from injury with the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.

Tanev last played in a 6-5 loss to Colorado on Dec. 11, leaving the game in the opening minute after taking a hit from Ross Colton of the Avalanche.

The Flames-Panthers game can be seen on Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 9:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. MT.
