The Philadelphia Flyers traded the rights to forward David Kase to the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday in exchange for the rights to forward Massimo Rizzo and a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Kase scored one goal in seven games with the Flyers during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. He has spent the past two years in his native Czechia playing for Sparta Praha. He recorded six goals and eight assists in 25 games last season.

The 26-year-old was drafted in the fifth round, 128th overall, by the Flyers in 2015.

“David is an intelligent forward who competes hard on both ends of the ice and will add to our organizational depth,” Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell said in a statement.

Rizzo has yet to play in the NHL and spent the past two seasons with the University of Denver. He put up 46 points (17 goals and 29 assists) in 38 games last season.

The 22-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., was selected in the seventh round, 216th overall, by the Hurricanes in 2019.
