Golden Knights acquire Alexander Holtz, Akira Schmid from Devils for Paul Cotter, pick

The Vegas Golden Knights bolstered their crease after trading away Logan Thompson.

Vegas acquired forward Alexander Holtz and goaltender Akira Schmid from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for centre Paul Cotter and a 2025 third-round pick on Saturday.

The Golden Knights sent goaltender Logan Thompson to the Washington Capitals earlier on Saturday in exchange for two picks.

Schmid, 24, was drafted by the Devils 136th overall in the fifth round of the 2018 draft. He had a 3.15 GAA, 0.895 save percentage and a 5-9-1 record in 19 games played last season. Over his three-year NHL career, he has a 2.90 GAA, 0.899 save percentage and a 14-18-3 record in 43 games.

Holtz, 22, is a former first-round pick of the Devils, going seventh overall in the 2020 Draft. He had the best season of his three-year NHL career last year, putting up career-highs in goals (16), assists (12) and games played (82).

In return, the Devils acquired centre Paul Cotter. The 24-year-old had seven goals and 18 assists in 76 games with the Golden Knights last season.
