Hurricanes’ Jesper Fast expected to miss 2024-25 season after neck surgery

Jesper Fast isn’t expected to suit up during the 2024-25 season.

The Carolina Hurricanes announced Thursday that the 32-year-old forward underwent neck surgery on Aug. 6 and will likely miss the entirety of the upcoming campaign.

Fast, an 11-year NHL veteran, played in 73 games with the Hurricanes in 2023-24, scoring six goals and 19 points. He didn’t suit up in any of Carolina’s post-season contests, but did register six goals in the 2022-23 playoffs.

He suffered the season-ending neck injury in the Hurricanes’ final game of the regular season against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Originally drafted by the New York Rangers in 2010, Fast has skated in 703 career games, totalling 91 goals, 157 assists and 248 points. He spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Rangers before signing with Carolina ahead of the 2020-21 season.
