Hurricanes’ Raanta exits game vs. Oilers for precautionary reasons

Carolina Hurricanes goalie Antti Raanta exited Wednesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers after the first period for precautionary reasons, the team said.

Pyotr Kochetkov replaced Raanta with the Hurricanes leading 4-1.

After the Hurricanes’ 6-3 win, coach Rod Brind’Amour said the team doesn’t believe it’s a serious injury.

“He said he felt something a little funny,” Brind’Amour said, per Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer. “Nothing serious we didn’t think, but we didn’t want to take a chance. So precautionary, really.”

Raanta has played the most of Carolina’s three goaltenders this season, coming into Wednesday’s game with a record of 5-2, a 2.88 goals-against average and .885 save percentage.

The Hurricanes are missing goaltender Frederik Andersen, who is out indefinitely with a blood clotting issue.
