Hurricanes recall goalie Antti Raanta from AHL Chicago

The Carolina Hurricanes recalled veteran goaltender Antti Raanta from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Raanta has struggled this season with a 6-5-1 record, 3.60 goals-against average and .854 save percentage in 14 games with the Hurricanes. His last two starts saw him allow 10 goals on 54 shots — four against the Vancouver Canucks on Dec. 9 and six against the Nashville Predators on Dec. 15.

The 34-year-old from Rauma, Finland, was sent down to the AHL last week after he cleared waivers. Raanta posted a 1-0-1 record, 2.90 GAA and .875 save percentage in two games with the Wolves.

He holds a career 133-78-28 record, 2.50 GAA and 9.15 save percentage over 11 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes and Hurricanes. Raanta and Frederik Andersen earned the William M. Jennings Trophy during the 2021-22 season as the Hurricanes pair allowed the fewest goals against.

Carolina also reassigned goaltender Yaniv Perets to the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.

The 23-year-old Perets, who has yet to make his NHL debut, holds a 5-5-1 record, 2.38 GAA and .916 save percentage in 11 games with the Admirals this season.
