Hurricanes sign Skyler Brind’Amour to one-year contract

The Carolina Hurricanes are keeping it in the family.

General manager Eric Tulsky announced on Saturday that they signed Skyler Brind’Amour, son of head coach Rod Brind’Amour, to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level.

“We were impressed with Skyler’s defensive awareness last season in the AHL, and he followed that up with a strong preseason showing,” Tulsky said in a statement released by the team. “We’re excited to have him join our organization.”

Brind’Amour, 25, played with the Charlotte Checkers, the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, in 2023-24, recording three goals and five assists in 54 games. He played college hockey with Quinnipiac University, appearing in 145 games and winning the NCAA Championship in 2023.

Initially drafted in the sixth round by the Edmonton Oilers in 2017, Brind’Amour signed a professional tryout agreement ahead of the Hurricanes’ 2024-25 training camp. He played his first game coached by his father on Sept. 25 and saw just over 14 minutes of ice time.
