Islanders forward Anthony Duclair out long-term with leg injury

New York Islanders star Anthony Duclair is facing a long-term absence, general manager Lou Lamoriello said Monday.

However, there is hope for Islanders fans as his leg injury is not season-ending.

Lamoriello added that the team will know more about Duclair’s timeline after further testing, sometime in the next 24 hours.

The winger left the ice after hurting his leg in the third period of Saturday’s 4-3 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens.

According to Islanders beat reporter Stefen Rosner, someone will be called up from the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders to replace Duclair.

For the Islanders this season, the 29-year-old has recorded two goals and one assist in five games after inking a four-year, $14 million contract on July 1. For both the San Jose Sharks and Tampa Bay Lightning last season, the forward tallied 24 combined goals and 42 points in 73 outings.

Duclair was selected in the third round of the 2012 draft by the New York Rangers, and has gone on to score 148 goals in 568 total career games.
