Kings’ Kuemper day-to-day with injury, Rittich to start vs. Maple Leafs

The Los Angeles Kings will be without their starting goaltender when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

The team announced that goalie Darcy Kuemper is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury and that backup David Rittich will get the start at Scotiabank Arena.

In a corresponding move, AHL goalie Pheonix Copley has been recalled from the Ontario Reign on an emergency basis.

Kuemper, 34, has started in all three Kings games this season, posting a .890 save percentage and a 3.59 goals-against average. The Saskatoon native was traded from the Washington Capitals to Los Angeles in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois. It’s unclear when he suffered the injury, though his last game was the Oct. 14 melee against the Ottawa Senators, where the Kings lost 8-7 in overtime.

Rittich, 32, has a career save percentage of .902 and goals-against average of 2.78 in 196 games across five teams.

At the other end of the rink, Anthony Stolarz is expected to start for the Maple Leafs as Joseph Woll continues to recover from lower-body tightness. Forward William Nylander is a game-time decision after missing Tuesday’s practice with an illness.
