The Tampa Bay Lightning are acquiring forward Tanner Jeannot from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenceman Cal Foote and five draft picks, the team announced.

The picks include: a first-round pick in 2025 (Top 10 protected), a second-round selection in 2024, and third, fourth and fifth-round picks in 2023.

Jeannot, a pending restricted free agent, has suffered a dip in production this year after recording 24 goals, 130 penalty minutes and finishing seventh in Calder Trophy voting during his rookie campaign one season ago.

The 25-year-old Estevan, Sask., native has five goals and nine assists in 56 appearances this season.

The Predators signed Jeannot to an entry-level contract as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

By acquiring a Jeannot, the Lightning continue a trend of trading first-round picks ahead of the NHL’s trade deadline.

Last season, Tampa Bay traded protected first-round picks in 2023 and 2024 in a deal for Brandon Hagel. And in 2021, the club gave up a 2021 first to acquire David Savard in a three-team trade. The Lightning next own a first-round pick in 2026.

With the trade, Tampa Bay does not currently own a pick in the 2023 NHL Draft until the sixth round.

Along with the picks, the Predators add a defensive defenceman in Foote, who was drafted 14th overall by the Lightning in 2017.

This season, the 24-year-old has one goal and two assists in 26 games.
