Lightning sign long-time Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons to three-year deal

After spending 10 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, forward Zemgus Girgensons has found a new NHL home.

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Monday that they have signed the 30-year-old Latvian product to a three-year contract that carries an $850,000 average annual value.

Girgensons, originally a first-round pick of Buffalo in 2012, debuted with the Sabres in 2013-14 and has since played in 688 games with the team, recording 89 goals and 99 assists.

He ranks 10th all-time in Sabres history in games played.

In 2023-24, Girgensons scored eight goals and recorded six assists over 63 games.

Girgensons was selected to the NHL All-Star Game in 2015, part of a career-best season that saw him recorded 15 goals and 30 points.
