Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews ruled out vs. Oilers with wrist injury

Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers with a wrist injury.

The 23-year-old appeared to jam his right wrist while sliding into the end boards in a recent game against the Calgary Flames, and had his wrist taped up for the remainder of the game.

Following Wednesday’s victory over the Flames, head coach Sheldon Keefe said Matthews had been dealing with a wrist injury for most of the season.

Through 20 games this season, Matthews leads the league with 18 goals, despite the injury.
