Maple Leafs’ Joel Edmundson returns, Jake McCabe out vs. Devils

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Joel Edmundson will be back in the lineup against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.

Edmundson was injured after blocking a shot on March 24 against the Hurricanes that saw him miss the last six games. The 30-year-old said that he would have played through the injury if it was the playoffs.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that along with Edmundson, Ilya Lyubushkin and Connor Dewar will return to the lineup. Coming out are defencemen Jake McCabe and Conor Timmins along with Noah Gregor.

Keefe said McCabe has been dealing with some bumps and bruises and is getting a maintenance day.

Edmundson was acquired by the Maple Leafs from the Washington Capitals ahead of the trade deadline on March 7 in exchange for draft picks.

In 51 games split between the Maple Leafs and Capitals this season, Edmundson has one goal and five assists for six points. He has yet to record a point as a member of the Maple Leafs.

Thursday’s game vs. the Devils can be seen on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
