Nick Robertson is returning to the Maple Leafs after initially requesting a trade out.
Robertson, who turns 23 on Wednesday, was a restricted free agent but agreed to terms on a one-year contract Tuesday, one week before training camp. The contract will pay Robertson $875,000.
Robertson will be looking for a bigger opportunity this season under new head coach Craig Berube after bouncing between the big club and AHL Marlies the last few years.
Last season he set career-highs with 14 goals, 27 points and 56 games played. With the departure of Tyler Bertuzzi, Robertson will be in contention for the second-line left-wing role and possibly time on the second power-play unit.
The Pasadena, Calif., native was a second-round pick by the Maple Leafs in the 2019 NHL Draft. His brother, Jason, plays for the Dallas Stars.
With Robertson signed, AHL forward Semyon Der-Arguchintsev is the final unsigned RFA in the Maple Leafs’ system.
