Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov is stopping his training and returning home to undergo additional treatments, his agent Dan Milstein announced Tuesday.
“Rodion Amirov has returned home and is with his family,” Milstein said in a statement. “Unfortunately, at the moment Rodion cannot train, as he is undergoing additional treatments. We would like to thank the Toronto Maple Leafs and Salavat Yulaev Ufa for their incredible support and willingness to do everything necessary for Rodion’s comfort.”
Amirov was diagnosed with a brain tumour back in February 2022 and did not play for the remainder of the season in the KHL with Salavat Yulaev.
The 21-year-old had been working with the Leafs development staff before returning home to Russia.
Toronto selected Amirov 15th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft
“It hits a little bit differently with our connection with Rodion Amirov and his fight that he’s in,” coach Sheldon Keefe told NHL.com last Saturday during the team’s Hockey Fights Cancer night.
