Maple Leafs recall goaltender Dennis Hildeby to serve as team’s playoff EBUG

The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies, the club announced Wednesday.

Hildeby, 21, will serve as the team’s playoff emergency backup goaltender (EBUG).

Hildeby appeared in just two regular-season contests for the Marlies after spending the majority of his time with Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Hockey League.

The move comes with regular starter Ilya Samsonov unavailable for Wednesday’s Game 4 against the Florida Panthers after suffering an upper-body injury in Game 3 due to a collision with teammate Luke Schenn.

Game 4 is scheduled for Wednesday in Florida and can be seen at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and SN NOW.
