Maple Leafs to give Martin Jones the start vs. visiting Senators

Martin Jones will get the start in goal again for the Toronto Maple when they host the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old is getting the nod for the fourth time in the last five games, with Joseph Woll out with an ankle injury and Ilya Samsonov struggling. Jones is 4-1-0 in six games since being called up from the AHL Marlies, with a 2.79 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

The Leafs-Sens game will be featured on Wednesday Night Hockey and can be seen on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.

Veteran defenceman Mark Giordano will not play, though head coach Sheldon Keefe says “he’s real close.” The 40-year-old has not played since Nov. 28, when he suffered a broken finger against the Florida Panthers.

When asked for updates on Woll and winger Ryan Reaves, Keefe was less optimistic, indicating that neither player had been on skates.
