Murray to make home debut with Maple Leafs, Samsonov still not 100 per cent

Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Matt Murray will get the start Thursday against the New Jersey Devils, head coach Sheldon Keefe announced, making it his home debut with the club.

Netminder Erik Kallgren will serve as backup to Murray.

Keefe also provided an update on injured goalie Ilya Samsonov, saying the Russian isn’t 100 per cent healthy and is expected to remain out through the weekend.

Samsonov has been out since Nov. 5 with a knee injury suffered in a win against the Boston Bruins.

Murray began the season as Toronto’s starting netminder but injured his groin after the season opener and missed about a month of action before returning for Tuesday’s win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In two starts this season, the 28-year-old off-season acquisition has a .900 save percentage and a 1-1 record.

The Maple Leafs host a red-hot Devils team that has won 10 games in a row heading into Thursday night’s clash.
