NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on 30 years at the helm: ‘It has been great fun’

As Gary Bettman celebrates his third decade as NHL commissioner, one thing is top-of-mind.

“The 30 years, the three decades, it’s not that it’s a blur, but it went very quickly,” he said during a wide-ranging sit-down interview with Sportsnet’s Christine Simpson. “It has been great fun. There’s nothing else I would rather have been doing or nothing I’d rather be doing.”

From handing out his first Stanley Cup in Montreal in 1993 to the rise of social media and social issues off the ice, Bettman has seen his job description broaden.

“There have been a lot of fundamental changes and a lot of things that we’ve had to focus on that we never had to focus on before,” Bettman said.
