The NHL is planning to punish the Ottawa Senators for their role in the voided trade that would have sent Evgenii Dadonov from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Anaheim Ducks in March 2022.
The Golden Knights, who had acquired Dadonov from the Senators during the previous summer, were under the impression the Russian forward had not submitted his list in time to Ottawa of teams he did not want to be traded to during the 2021-22 season. As it turned out, that wasn’t true, and Anaheim was among the teams on Dadonov’s list. The deal was subsequently voided by the NHL.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that discipline to the Senators will be forthcoming during “Saturday Headlines” on Hockey Night in Canada.
“Sometime, I think, in the next few days, the NHL is going to announce some sort of punishment to the Senators for that situation,” Friedman said. “I think we’re going to get a clear explanation of what occurred and why Vegas wasn’t at fault.”
The Golden Knights ultimately traded Dadonov to the Montreal Canadiens after the season.
