Nylander sets Maple Leafs record for longest season-opening point streak

William Nylander stands alone in the Toronto Maple Leafs record books as he registered his ninth-straight game with a point to start the season.

Nylander passed Frank Mahovlich, Lanny McDonald and John Anderson to set the new mark.

Nylander was credited with an assist on John Tavares’ goal in the third period. Initially, Nylander was not given an assist until an official correction by the league.

Through nine games this season Nylander has six goals and 13 points to lead the Leafs in scoring.

The 27-year-old is a pending unrestricted free agent as he is in the final year of a six-year, $45 million deal.
