Oilers’ Ekholm out vs. Capitals with illness, Stecher makes debut

The Edmonton Oilers won’t have defenceman Mattias Ekholm in the lineup against the Washington Capitals because of an illness.

With Ekholm unable to suit up, newly acquired defenceman Troy Stecher will get into the lineup. The Oilers acquired Stecher from the Arizona Coyotes for a 2027 fourth-round pick at the trade deadline.

In 62 games this season, Ekholm has five goals and 28 points while averaging 20:56 per game.

Stecher has five points in 47 games and was averaging 18:26 of ice time for the Coyotes before being dealt.
