Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard will make his second start in the past three games when the team opens a back-to-back set Thursday against the New Jersey Devils, coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters on Wednesday.
Regular starter Stuart Skinner will return to the net the next night as they wrap up a three-game trip through the New York area against the Rangers, Knoblauch said.
The Oilers have hit a rough patch, losing their past three games.
Skinner took the loss in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to the New York Islanders, while Pickard was between the pipes Saturday for a 5-1 defeat against the Florida Panthers.
Thursday will mark Pickard’s fourth start and fifth game for Edmonton since he was recalled from AHL Bakersfield last month.
Pickard is 1-2 with a 2.99 goals-against average and .901 save percentage.
