Oilers’ Smith dealing with non-COVID illness, Skinner called up from AHL

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith missed practice on Sunday and is dealing with a non-COVID illness, according to head coach Jay Woodcroft.

In Smith’s absence, netminder Stuart Skinner has been called up from AHL Bakersfield to back up Mikko Koskinen for Monday’s Battle of Alberta.

Smith, 39, allowed four goals on 28 shots against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, and has posted a .891 save percentage in 15 games played this season.

Skinner has played 13 games with the Oilers this season and posted a .913 save percentage.
