Ottawa Senators acquire Jan Jenik from Utah for Egor Sokolov

The Ottawa Senators and Utah Hockey Club made a trade on Wednesday, with forward Jan Jenik headed to the nation’s capital and forward Egor Sokolov going to Salt Lake City.

Both players are restricted free agents.

Jenik, 23, a native of Czechia, was third in scoring for the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL last season with 36 points. He had a lone assist in five games with the Coyotes. He was drafted 65th overall by the Coyotes in 2018.

“Jan is a versatile and skilled forward,” said Sens club president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios. “Capable of playing at both centre and on the wing, he’s tenacious and demonstrates good offensive upside.”

Sokolov, 24, was drafted 61st overall by Ottawa in 2020. The Russian winger has played the majority of the past four seasons with the Belleville Senators of the AHL, putting up 180 points in 240 games. He has one goal and one assist in 13 NHL games.
