Panthers sign Rasmus Asplund to a one-year, two-way deal

The Florida Panthers have signed forward Rasmus Asplund to a one-year, two-year contract, the team announced on Monday.

The 26-year-old spent the 2023-2024 season with the club’s AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. Suiting up for 67 games, Asplund totalled nine goals and 35 assists — a team-high — for 44 points on the year.

The five-foot-11, Filipstad, Sweden native was originally a second-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres back in 2016. He has since played in 183 career NHL games, registering 49 points with Buffalo and Nashville, while adding 106 points throughout 178 career AHL games.

He has represented Sweden on the international stage on a few occasions. Most recently during the 2022 World Championship, along with appearances in 2016 and 2017 during the World Junior Championship as well as the 2015 U-18 World Championship.
