Penguins re-sign goaltender Tristan Jarry with five-year, $26.9M deal

Tristan Jarry is returning to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The club announced Saturday that the goaltender has been signed to a new five-year deal worth a total of $26.875 million.

The contract has an AAV of $5.375 million.

Jarry has been the club’s starting netminder for the past three seasons, since the departure of Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury.

He’s excelled at times, earning two All-Star nods and some Vezina votes, but has also struggled in the post-season, leading to questions as to whether Pittsburgh would look for a new answer in net once Jarry’s contract with the team was up.

Instead, new Penguins president Kyle Dubas has decided to bring the 28-year-old back, the club seemingly running it back with their Jarry-Casey DeSmith duo in the cage.

Jarry’s new deal brings a raise on the $3.5 million he earned for the past three years. Over those three seasons, the netminder had a .913 save percentage and a 2.66 goals-against average, to go with eight total shutouts.

In the post-season over that span, he has an .891 save percentage and a 3.00 goals-against average through eight playoff appearances.
