Penguins trade Reilly Smith to Rangers for draft picks

The Pittsburgh Penguins are shipping forward Reilly Smith to the New York Rangers for draft picks

The Penguins will receive a second-round pick in 2027 and a fifth-round pick in 2025 from the Rangers in the trade. Pittsburgh is also retaining 25 per cent of Smith’s salary in the deal.

Smith has one more left on his deal, which has an average annual value of $5 million, but it will only cost the Rangers $3.75 million on the cap.

In 76 games with Pittsburgh last season, Smith had 13 goals and 40 points. He was acquired by the Penguins last off-season from the Vegas Golden Knights for a third-round pick.

The 32-year-old was the first player captain Mark Stone handed the Cup after the Golden Knights won last year.

The Dallas Stars selected Smith in the third round of the 2009 NHL Draft. The Toronto native has 213 goals and 513 points in 840 career games with the Stars, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, Golden Knights, and Penguins.
