Blues coach Berube rips Binnington for his antics: ‘Just play goal, stop the puck’

Jordan Binnington had another eventful night in the NHL on Saturday, and St. Louis Blues head coach Craig Berube is tired of his antics after a 6-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“It’s got to stop. It doesn’t help anything,” Berube said. “Just play goal, stop the puck.”

It all started late in the first period against Pittsburgh, when after allowing three goals in the frame the Blues netminder appeared to take some of his frustration out on Jason Zucker, clipping the forward with his glove as Zucker cruised behind the St. Louis net.

The play comes just two days after Binnington attempted to hit Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal behind his net, but ultimately fell to the ice.

Zucker crashed hard into the boards on Saturday’s play and spent some time laying on the ice before getting up, while Binnington did not receive any punishment for his actions.

Zucker got his revenge though, scoring just under two minutes into the second to give Pittsburgh a 4-1 lead and chase Binnington, who’d allowed the four goals on 17 shots.

But Binnington wasn’t completely done there. As the 29-year-old left the ice he started jawing at the Penguins bench — earning him a 10-minute misconduct for inciting.

As if the situation couldn’t get any more ridiculous, Thomas Greiss, Binnington’s replacement, slipped and fell as he got set to take the Blues net.

Binnington is struggling this season, with a 9-10 record and a career-low .895 save percentage.
