Rangers, Alexis Lafreniere agree to seven-year contract extension

Alexis Lafrenière has secured a big pay raise.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Friday that Lafrenière and the New York Rangers have come to terms on a seven-year, $52.15-million contract that begins next season.

The deal will keep the former first-overall pick in Manhattan through his age-30 season.

PuckPedia and Larry Brooks of The New York Post were first to report the framework of the deal. According to PuckPedia, the contract is structured as follows:

Year 1: $2-million salary and $8-million signing bonus
Year 2: $5.5-million salary and $2-million signing bonus
Year 3: $8.5-million salary and $1-million signing bonus
Year 4 $7.15-million salary
Years 5 to 7: $6-million salary

PuckPedia also reported that the contract includes an eight-team no-trade list from Years 3-7.

Lafrenière is in the final year of a two-year bridge deal and coming off a breakout season. In 2023-24, he scored 28 goals and 57 points, and he’s kept that momentum this season, with four goals and seven points in seven games.

The Rangers selected Lafrenière first overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
